The “You and Me” and “Me On My Own” class is for the student who is not three by September 1st but who will have a 3rd birthday by December 31st. A parent or special adult accompanies the student during the first semester on Thursday afternoons to participate and encourage their child’s learning experience. Then, with an easier transition, the student attends school on his or her own independently starting in January on both Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. During this gently structured class the students learn how to line up, wait their turn, share with their peers, follow directions and be responsible for themselves. Circle time is appropriately planned for listening to stories, learning new songs and finger-plays, and for dancing and playing with instruments. These young students participate in structured free-choice, playtime that includes are activities, play dough fun, sensory table experiences, cognitive games, dress-up, and a variety of block play. Large motor development is also encouraged through play, both outside on the playground as well as in out large indoor playroom on a daily basis.
Young three-year-olds must be three by December 31. Students enrolled in the “Me On My Own” class in January will need to be toilet trained.
The 3 year old class is an important base in which to start your child in school. It lays a solid foundation so that the student is better prepared for the 4K or 4 year old program. It is a structured program that incorporates play and learning together.
During the day there is a circle time where the students work on the calendar, weather and other preschool activities that involve group participation. There is also free time in which the students interact and play. There is a wide variety of toys, cognitive games and fine motor manipulatives to play with. There are also dramatic play units, sensory tables and art projects to engage your child.
Students continually learn songs and finger-plays throughout their school day as well as play with preschool instruments, rhythm sticks, bean bags and hoops during music time.
There is a story time, snack time and an outside play time as well. The 3 year old classes also go on a few scheduled field trips throughout the school year. This program has so much to offer to each student as a solid foundation to their first introduction to school!
Children who are 3 by September 1st have the option of attending two half days on Tuesday and Thursday mornings or three half days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Our publicly funded four-year-old kindergarten program is a collaboration with the School District of La Crosse. It is five half days, Monday through Friday, morning or afternoon classes. The goals and philosophy of Congregational Preschool and the public school district are well aligned. Social and self development, math, language, and small and large physical development are all appropriately addressed by the certified Early Childhood Teachers at Congregational Preschool.
Please note; the 4K program is tuition free.
