The “You and Me” and “Me On My Own” class is for the student who is not three by September 1st but who will have a 3rd birthday by December 31st. A parent or special adult accompanies the student during the first semester on Thursday mornings from 8:40am to 11:15am to participate and encourage their child’s learning experience. Then, with an easier transition, the student attends school on his or her own independently starting in January on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:40am – 11:15am. During this gently structured class, the students learn how to line up, wait their turn, share with their peers, follow directions and be responsible for themselves, just to name a few. Circle time is appropriately planned for listening to stories, learning new songs and finger-plays, and for dancing and playing with instruments. These young students participate in structured free-choice, playtime that includes a wide variety of activities, play dough fun, sensory table experiences, cognitive games, dress-up, dramatic play, small motor, and a variety of block play. Large motor development is also encouraged through play, both outside on the playground as well as in out large indoor playroom on a daily basis.
Young three-year-olds must be three by December 31. Students enrolled in the “Me On My Own” class in January will need to be toilet trained.
Our 3K classes are an important and integral base in which to start your child in school. It lays a solid foundation so that the student is better prepared for the 4K or 4 year old program. It is a structured program that incorporates play, age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans, and learning together.
During the day, there is a circle time where the students work on the calendar, weather, the beginnings of letter, sound, and number recognition, and other preschool activities that involve both group participation and individualized learning. There is also free time in which the students interact and learn even more through play. There is a wide variety of toys, cognitive games and fine motor manipulatives to play with and enjoy. There are also dramatic play units, sensory tables and art projects to engage your child.
Students continually learn songs and finger-plays throughout their school day as well as play with preschool instruments, rhythm sticks, bean bags and hoops during music time, just to name a few!
There is a story time, snack time, and an outside play time as well on our huge, newly remodeled playground. The 3 year old classes also go on a few scheduled field trips throughout the school year. This program has so much to offer to each student as a solid foundation to their first introduction to school or for those that prefer a bit more structure than some traditional day care environments!
Children who are 3 by September 1st have the option of attending two half days on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, three half days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. They can also participate in our engaging Lunch Bunch program!
Our publicly-funded four-year-old kindergarten program is a collaboration with the School District of La Crosse. It is five half days, runs Monday through Friday, with morning or afternoon classes available. The goals and philosophy of Congregational Preschool and the public school district are well aligned. Social and self-development, math, language, and small and large physical development are all appropriately addressed by Congregational Preschool staff, who are certified Early Childhood Teachers and have all earned Bachelors Degrees in Elementary Education. When enrolled in our 4K program, your child experiences the great advantages of small class sizes, a unique family-style culture, long-tenured teachers, and a Teacher’s Assistant in each classroom. All of these features allows children to receive special, individualized attention with all ingredients necessary to prepare them for their next educational journey in kindergarten. We also offer all day care, with before and after school options and Lunch Bunch, to meet your family’s needs.
Please note; the 4K program is tuition free.
